POSITION TITLE:   Senior Manager of Policy and Advocacy ( Agriculture) - SDG2 Advocacy Hub

LOCATION:             New York, Washington DC, Nairobi, Rome or London preferred

REPORTS TO:        Director of SDG2 Advocacy hub

CLOSING DATE:     December 2, 2020 

 

The SDG2 Advocacy Hub is looking for a Senior Manager of Policy and Advocacy (Agriculture) to join the Hub’s Secretariat to lead policy discussions and drive policy priorities with a specific focus on agriculture policy and resource mobilisation goals, to complement the work we are doing to amplify policy and financing goals for nutrition. In this role, the Senior Manager of Policy and Advocacy (Agriculture) will provide policy expertise and will support the SDG2 Advocacy Hub Bridge and Director to agree and harmonise policy advocacy priorities; translate priorities into clear messages to coordinate action on SDG2 priorities. The Senior Manager will split their time as follows: 60% of time to policy analysis and advocacy; 20% of time to network engagement and 20% of time to general department work.

 

The core responsibilities/activities of this role includes:

Policy analysis and leadership:
  • Provides policy leadership, advice and analysis; 
  • Work to ensure policy coherence and connections across SDG2 targets and help the Secretariat and the Hub leverage the interconnected policy issues and priorities;
  • Support the Director, the Bridge and in turn broader Hub in developing proposed policy priorities for the year;
  • Contribute to communicating policy goals to a broad audience and build
    messaging related to broader SDG2 goals.
Advocacy
  • Produce effective policy analysis and campaign materials that support strategic objectives of the Hub;
  • Build relationships with partners, influentials and policy makers to help drive key advocacy priorities.
SDG2 Advocacy Hub Representation:
  • Represent the SDG2 Advocacy hub at key events;
  • Present and speak to SDG2 priorities at partner events and calls.
Writing:
  • Draft policy briefs to inform SDG2 Advocacy Hub policy priorities;
  • Support content creation for the Hub platform that furthers key policy priorities;
  • Support director in creating relevant thought-leadership pieces for Hub
    secretariat and members as required.
Knowledge management:
  • Work with key partners on reports and data relevant to SDG2 to help create communication resources;
  • Draw on the existing evidence base to support the Bridge and Hub understand the policy and resource mobilization implications and possible interconnections between SDG2 targets, including humanitarian, agriculture, nutrition, and climate smart actions. 
  • Advocate for greater attention to – and increased investment for– those cost-effective actions which can be scaled up to address malnutrition.
National-level Support:
  • Provide support to national level partners as required.

 

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Required 10-15 years of policy leadership/development/analysis and/or advocacy focused on food security, agriculture or nutrition.
  • Experience in food security and agriculture focused advocacy and policy work  
  • Experience working with food security and agriculture-focused coalitions is a plus.
  • Ability to work across sectors and see connections between traditionally defined
    sectors.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate degree in Global Development, Nutrition or
    Agriculture is preferred.
  • Must be fluent in English and conversational in French or Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse groups, including ability to reach across
    racial, ethnic, generational, socioeconomic and denominational lines
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to gain new knowledge and apply it to specific situations, researching
    and performing straightforward analyses of information from varied sources.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, use of the Internet for research and
    experience with data collection and the importance of databases
  • Must be able to conduct trainings via webinars and conference calls

Work environment:

  • Agile and responsive workplace operating like a start up
  • Occasional travel to meetings and events is required (no more than 20 percent of time)
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently.
  • Work with a dispersed team globally across multiple time zones.
  • Must be responsive to emails and phone calls off-site during evenings,
    weekends, and holidays to support time-sensitive matters.
