As we come to the end of 2024, it’s a good opportunity to reflect back on the achievements and challenges of the past year.
Yet, there have been promising bright spots inspiring us and encouraging our work: Brazil under the G20 Presidency announced the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, calling for greater political leadership, alignment, coordination and collaboration. Ahead of the January 2025 launch of the CAADP3 Post-Malabo Framework we have seen great strides to ensure that it delivers on aspects of SDG2, including sustainable healthy diets, smallholder livelihoods and food systems transformation.
Financing for SDG2 has also been at the top of agendas across initiatives and mechanisms. A stronger focus on food security and nutrition in the World Bank’s IDA21 Replenishment and Global Challenge Programmes shows potential to create the conditions for greater technical assistance and financing for SDG2 issues in some of the countries facing multiple crises. SOFI 2024 was also pivotal in shedding light on nutrition financing.
We continued to see efforts to integrate climate issues across SDG2 and food, acknowledging the need to act quickly. While we look towards COP30 as a key moment, COP29 was a stepping stone along the way. Many more examples of efforts and bright stops are on the list and we must not lose sight of the infinite possibilities and solutions that exist. Across our work, we continued to elevate our campaigns and networks to drive progress for SDG2.
In 2025, we must build on this momentum around SDG2 in ways that encourage greater coordination, collaboration and alignment to strengthen country capacity and support regional and global progress.
Wishing you a restful end of the year and looking forward to collaborating in 2025.
