What is Climate Conscious Catering?

Providing food for large numbers of people that is tasty, nutritious, affordable AND planet friendly – low in carbon emissions, low in water use and low in waste.

What does Climate Conscious Mean for Caterers?

  • Creating meals and menus that align with carbon and water targets
  • Switching carbon and water intense ingredients for those that are less demanding
  • Sourcing ingredients that are local and seasonal
  • Diversifying ingredients used to prevent overuse and monocultures
  • Reducing food waste
  • Cutting back on packaging and other ‘throw away items’

How do we know if a meal is climate conscious?

We use a carbon footprint calculator to see if a meal is climate conscious, the one we used for COP28 is Nutritics.

Climate Conscious Catering at COP28

Climate Conscious Catering was born from a desire to make the food served at COP28, the annual UN Climate Change event, as climate conscious as possible.

COP28 is doing more than just talk, it is demonstrating to delegations, negotiators, visitors and the world that catering can be both delicious AND planet friendly.

Climate Conscious Catering, alongside a group of pioneering chefs, has trained the 50-70+ caterers at COP28 how to be climate conscious in the planning, preparation and serving of food.

Join the Manifesto

Chefs and Caterers have a huge influence on the way the planet eats. Not only do they serve food to millions of people every day but they set trends that shape what and how we eat.

The Chefs’ Manifesto

The SDG2 Advocacy Hub facilitates the Chefs’ Manifesto, a community of 1200+ chefs from 92 countries, equipped with a simple set of actions to drive progress towards more sustainable food systems.

Chefs can be powerful advocates for a better food future – inspiring people to make changes in their kitchens and communities and empowering them to call on governments and companies to play their part.
